When Royalty Seeks Wisdom: Lessons from the Queen of Sheba

In an age where power, prestige, and position are often idolized, the Queen of Sheba offers a profoundly different picture of greatness. She was a woman of vast wealth. A ruler of a flourishing kingdom. Surrounded by gold, servants, and influence.
And yet… she left her throne.
Packed her camels.
Crossed deserts.
All for one thing:
Wisdom.
Who Was the Queen of Sheba?
We meet her in 1 Kings 10 and 2 Chronicles 9 — a regal woman who ruled the kingdom of Sheba (likely modern-day Ethiopia or Yemen). She had it all, yet there was something in Solomon’s wisdom — wisdom concerning the name of the Lord — that stirred her spirit.
She didn’t come to network.
She didn’t come for diplomacy.
She came to test Solomon with hard questions (1 Kings 10:1 NKJV).
Her story is a call to every woman:
“Don’t settle for information when God is offering revelation.”
1. The Hunger for Wisdom Is a Holy Calling
She could have stayed in luxury. Instead, she chose discomfort for discovery.
“She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue... and she spoke with Solomon about all that was in her heart.”
— 1 Kings 10:2 (NKJV)
There’s something sacred about seeking. It’s not a sign of weakness — it’s a sign of spiritual strength.
Women who hunger for more become women God fills.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6 NKJV). The Queen of Sheba teaches us that royalty still needs revelation.
2. God Invites Our Hard Questions
The Queen of Sheba didn’t hold back. She poured out her heart, her questions, her intellect, and her curiosity.
And God didn’t rebuke her.
He welcomed her.
Through Solomon, the Lord answered every question she asked (1 Kings 10:3).
If you’ve ever thought your questions disqualify you from spiritual depth — think again.
Your curiosity might be the invitation God has been waiting for.
3. Wisdom Is Recognized by Its Fruit
She saw Solomon’s court, his house, his servants, the way his officials sat at his table — and “there was no more spirit in her” (1 Kings 10:5). It took her breath away.
This was more than structure.
More than royalty.
It was divine order.
And she knew it.
Real wisdom doesn’t just impress — it transforms atmospheres.
When a woman walks in godly wisdom, it shows. Her business, her home, her conversations, her posture — all carry the imprint of heaven’s insight.
4. Revelation Should Lead to Worship
One of the most powerful parts of her story is this:
“Then she said to the king: ‘Blessed be the Lord your God…’” — 1 Kings 10:9 NKJV
She didn’t just leave impressed. She left in awe. This Gentile queen responded to the wisdom of God with worship.
That’s the true test of a spiritual encounter:
Not applause.
Not influence.
But worship.
When wisdom is from God, it will always point us back to God.
5. Honor Is a Kingdom Response
She didn’t just receive — she gave. And not a small token.
“She gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold…” (1 Kings 10:10)
This was an offering of honor.
She knew that when you encounter something holy, the correct response is not only praise — but partnership. Generosity follows gratitude. She honored the source of wisdom.
A Word from Jesus
Interestingly, Jesus Himself spoke of her:
“The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment… for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.” — Matthew 12:42 (NKJV)
He rebuked those who were blind to the divine wisdom standing before them.
She sought Solomon.
We are invited to seek Jesus — the Wisdom of God in the flesh (1 Corinthians 1:30).
If she traveled for Solomon, how much more should we draw near to Christ?
Personal Reflection:
What wisdom are you currently seeking from God?
Are you willing to leave the comfort of what you know to pursue divine truth?
Have you allowed your revelations to turn into worship?
